Genre:  HISTORICAL FICTION

The HereticTitle:  THE HERETIC

Author:   ANDREW FEDER

My dictionary tells me a heretic is a person with unorthodox opinions; or, in the author’s words, “a person who doesn’t conform to, or follow the beliefs of his people”. But never mind that because I soon found out that our protagonist’s enemies had another word for him: The Decapitator. Whoa! Get ready for action but readers beware, heed the warning on the first page: “Due to the author’s Selective Tourettes Syndrome, the following contains profanity and obscenities that might burn your little eyes…”—He’s not kidding. As for me? I was more than ready to start turning pages!

Feder starts out with a dream, involving the Lakota Sioux battling the U.S. Cavalry. From there, the story seamlessly transitions into a steamy, erotic reality involving our main character who, in reality, is currently a U.S. Senator. Later, while the senator is headed to an important press conference, he decides to kill a little time at a museum where he discovers that he’s able to read an ancient Greek inscription—even though he’s never studied the Greek language!  Disturbed and curious about this, our protagonist decides to undergo psychic regression. He drifts back in time—through WW II, then the Lakota sequence, the Middle Ages, all the way to the time of Alexander the Great. It’s there that the author weaves his fictitious protagonist, the decapitator named Aias, into the fabric of Alexander’s life and conquests, interacting with true historical legends, even marrying Nefertiri, Queen of Egypt. The author uses a clever means of narrating the story as told by Aias and Nefertiri to their coming-of-age children.

Feder obviously did a painstaking and thorough job on his research. He skillfully describes the battles of the ancient Greeks, in particular, the assassination of King Philip of Macedonia. Most noteworthy are his renderings of the military strategy and action surrounding the rebelling Illyrians. I was particularly impressed to find out that Alexander defeated the Taulantian and Dardanian forces and not one soldier was killed. I also enjoyed the way the author tells us the story using a modern voice and works in his erotic scenes. The voice doesn’t always work and the erotica is sometimes a bit over the top and gratuitous but, c’mon, what erotica isn’t? I think using the voice and dialogue of the times would be dry and tedious—merely a history lesson.

A couple of things about Feder’s style did bother me, though. The author’s choice to use a space between each and every paragraph disrupted the flow, making it harder for me to engage. And, at times, the dialogue seemed stilted. But these minor irritations are of no consequence because Feder weaves a creative, accurate and most of all—entertaining tale.

All in all?  . . . I found The Heretic to be a fun read and recommend it heartily, especially if you’re into historical fiction, peppered with erotica. Recommended by reviewer: Jan Evan Whitford, Allbooks Reviews

The Man in the MoonTitle:     The Man In The Moon

Author:     Tom Tancin

With bodies literally piling up in the scenic town of Pocono, PA will it be possible to find the killer who has dubbed himself ‘The Man In The Moon?’

Lindsay Scott is truly committed to her career as the number one crime solver in America, however this has caused disastrous struggles in her personal life.  She excels as an investigator and has become known as the ‘solver of the unsolvable.’  The Pocono Chief of Police has called for her help, in hopes her expertise will shed some light on the horrors of recent multiple murders.  His town is becoming increasingly terrorized after 12 college kids have been mercilessly murdered.

Unfamiliar with the area, Lindsay must be dependent upon the knowledge of the local police, towns people and professors to try and decipher any clues the murderer is leaving behind.

The biggest clue is his name, ‘The Man In The Moon’ but how does she connect that with the murders?  Remembering a college lecture on ‘pareidolia’ definitely helps. She must decipher the significance of that face in the moon that we all love to gaze at.  We learn that different cultures perceive different ideas about the moon’s images but eventually she believes she can pinpoint the next move.

Lindsay has a couple of suspects that are professors at the school.  She organizes a stakeout on the astronomy professor’s calculation and to her mortification, 8 more students are now dead.

The author, Tom Tancin has brilliantly written a murder mystery filled with suspense and a cold, calculating murderer.  The story will have you intrigued until the very end.  Not only is Tom a talented author, he has shown us his astutely keen business sense by posting his first 19 chapters on his blog, tantalizing readers to the point where they simple must know the conclusion, when the book is released.

At 23 years of age, Tom Tancin is proudly the author of six novels and I am sure many more are in the works in his talented mind.  He lives in Northampton, PA and has a background in biological science.

I highly recommend reading this novel. Reviewer:  Cheryl Ellis, Allbooks Reviews

Good Morning:  Shirley

I am speechless - and I send my best regards and gratitude to Emily-Jane Hills Orford and yourself. What a wonderful review! It is stated so beautifully! I just love it! I have a very good psychic who informed me that I would receive wonderful support for my book in the USA and particularly in Canada. And that has certainly been proven. Yes, I am interested in working with you. You can outline your thoughts and fees.

Again, I am so pleased - this report is so beautifully and complimentarily written - recognition, per se is so rewarding! I am so happy!  All good wishes, Angus Munro, author of A Full House- but empty.

Hi Shirley,

I would be absolutely thrilled for you to pass this along. If you need more info through an interview by phone or questions answered in an email, I'd be happy to help you. I have a picture of myself and the book cover.

There are no words to say how connecting with your site and you personally have made a friendship.

You help authors day in and day out but you should hear how much it is appreciated.  Without you, we stay an unknown.

Sincerely,

Alberta H. Sequeira, A Healing Heart

Please thank Cheryl for the fantastic review!!!  Let me know where to send the book and I will send a signed copy when it is released at the end of October.

Thanks again!

Tom Tancin

Author of The Man in the Moon

Dear Shirley,

I must rave about the exceptional quality of the edit I received from Allbook Reviews!  Lisa Haselton surpassed my expectations on the job she did for my manuscript The Eyes of a Man, and many of the errors she caught I never would have, regardless of how many times I went over the text.
When a book goes to print, mistakes in the text are permanent and I didn't want grammar errors to distract from the story.  I believe many of us have read books so riddled with poor punctuation that we wonder if the manuscript was edited at all.  I now have peace of mind that the text I present is my very best.
I should also mention that your prices are the best I've found anywhere.  What I spent was worth every penny and I'll be sending my future projects.
My sincere gratitude to both you and Lisa, Dawn Roberts

Dear Shirley

Asking Allbooks Review to edit and pre pub my second book in The Rathing Chronicles is one of the best moves I have made as an author.   When my first book - The Kytos Project - was being published I obviously liaised closely with my publisher's editorial team.   I thought I had picked up on all the little necessities in grammar, punctuation and so on, so when I submitted Operation Zygote to Lisa Haselton, I foolishly thought that there might be only marginal changes.   How wrong I was!   Lisa's edited version email arrived and I was staggered at my numerous oversights.  Lisa is a perfectionist but her role went beyond the norm.   She - quite rightly - pointed out several discrepancies in my story in respect of time-line, contradiction of some facts and a few other shortfalls in the plot.   To fall back on a much hackneyed cliche, I could not see the wood for the trees and I needed an independent observer to critique the work.    Her incisive observations helped me streamline and tighten my narrative.   As a result, I am now much more confident in submitting my manuscript to publishers or literary agents.

I have used similar organizations in the past but I have found you and your team to be far more professional, friendly and helpful than I have experienced with others - and at a fee that is amazingly competitive.   I don't know if you will publish this email of mine in your general forum for all to see, but if so I would wish to say to every writer, aspiring or established, whether in the USA, UK or elsewhere, that it is most definitely in their best interests to touch base with you prior to making contact with publishers or agents.

On one final point - Lisa also gave a review of my novel, The Kytos Project some time ago.   I found her analysis fair and balanced.   There was no "hype", although it was complimentary.   If this is the general pattern of all reviews by Allbooks reviews, then one can be confident that the book will be true to your critique.

Thank you again from a UK writer who is thoroughly impressed with your organization.   I shall not fail to recommend Allbooks Review in the highest possible terms.   Thank you Shirley, and thank you Lisa.Best wishes   John von Kesmark

Thanks, Shirley! I am absolutely delighted with the review byJan Whitford (and amazed at how rapidly it happened), and looking forward to seeing it posted on
Amazon and B&N. Please also include it on Amazon.ca and Amazon.co.uk.

Thanks again! Let me know when the review appears on AllBooks Review,
and I'll add a link to my website.
