A Guide to the Best in Cinema Thrills
AUTHOR: John Howard Reid
For all you movie buffs out there, this is an outstanding reference book. Subtitled Mystery, Suspense, Film Noir and Detective Movies on DVD, this is one of the most comprehensive and detailed summaries of the genres (as indicated by the subtitle) that I’ve seen compiled to date. Written in two parts, the first 300 pages provides short but concise descriptions of well over 200 titles on currently released on DVD. Sorted alphabetically, each mini-review provides detailed information on the cast, the film crew and studio, a synopsis, interesting production notes and a critical summary of the film itself. The book is illustrated by a couple hundred photos–mostly stills from the actual movies–, which work nicely to break up the text in this extensive project.

The Shipwreck of a Nation- Peter Nennhaus
John Helman, Allbooks Review- This book is one the best I have ever read in the modern era. It is exceedingly well done. My highest gratitude to the author for his work and his honest portrayal. There are no apologies and no indignation, just honest history.
At the beginning Peter Nennhaus was born into a normal family for its time and his experiences are quite typical for a young man growing up and becoming a productive member of his society. He spent summers in the country with his family. He went to school. He was active in society. His father went to work every day. His older brothers enlisted in the army. He thought God was on his and his nation’s side in a turbulent time. Is this a story of the United States or another western nation? No, it is the true tale of growing up in Germany in the 1930’s.

Title: SCREWING THE POOCH
Author: J.B. BERGSTAD
The best thing about this collection of short stories is the author’s outstanding skill at character development. I’m a huge fan of books that are character-driven; in fact, much more so than plot-driven. The reason for that? Well, if the characters captivate me, then I’m happy with the story, no matter what happens. And Bergstad’s seven short stories are definitely page-turners, for exactly that reason. BEYOND THOSE DISTANT STARS
available at: Amazon, Barnes & Noble and the authors page at:http://www.mundania.com/book.php?title=Beyond+Those+Distant+Stars
This Sci-Fi novel moves at warp speed as what has become a corrupt human race fights for its very survival against an alien race armed with superior weapons and backed by a leader who claims be an all powerful All Mother.
The story begins with a prologue in which the main character, Stella McMasters, saves the life of a comrade life, is almost killed in the process and is saved when physicians remove her radioactive flesh and turn her into a superhuman cyborg. The action starts when she is given command of her first space ship and McMasters soon finds herself cast into the role of saving humanity from the alien menace. This is a no-nonsense space battle story with plenty of action to move the story forward through all the twists and turns of deception, treason, human selfishness, prejudice and - of course - love. And as it is with most of the best Sci-Fi, the story will cause you to contemplate some of the big question humans face when they look up at the night sky and wonder: do I matter, is there a god, what’s it all about, Alfie?

Title: Two Lion-Hearted Groomers

From the opening foreword of “2 Lion-Hearted Groomers” there is a sense of reading something that stands by the mantra of “write what you know”.
The three authors have drawn on their collective experiences with and love of animals to create a tapestry of episodes centring on the personal battles and professional trials of Eileen and Leigh.

MURDEROUS INTELLECTUALS
"Jonathan Maxwell's compellingly readable book takes the reader inside Nazi Germany on many different levels. The book provides a portrait of a people and a country in continuous flux, from the events that led to Hitler's popularity, to the Hitler Youth movement, to the embrace of national socialism, to Hitler's warped inner circle. A fine piece of work, Maxwell's book will appeal to general readers interested in the inherent drama of Hitler's unnerving rise to power and his subsequent apocalyptic fall." -Jean Sasson, New York Times bestselling author

Open the Door, Richard
Author: Richard Polombi
Richard’s mother always told him to choose his friends carefully. But one friend and a big mistake later, Richard finds himself balancing on rock off of a seawall, precariously close to falling into the Gulf of Mexico. Fast forward forty years later, Richard is sentenced for road rage, and the story about the seawall is one of many he will be telling his court appointed psychologists.
Laced with humor, wit and a certain irony, each chapter becomes more amusing. I felt at times it was wrong to laugh at some of the humor, but who could help it? It is easy to imagine the different psychologists scratching their heads in incredulity. Mr. Polombi brings out the mischievous child in all of us. The main character’s older brothers Harry and John are constantly causing Richard trouble and his on-again, off-again, younger sister Judy can’t seem to make up her mind whose side she is on. Harry, especially, is a thorn in Richard’s side. Highly recommended by Allbooks Review.

Son of My Soul: The Adoption of Christopher is Debra Shiveley Welch’s testimony to a life full of trials, sorrows and struggles. It is a reflective journey of a difficult life that is finally conquered by love, the simple, all-encompassing love of a child. This is as much Debra’s story as it is Christopher’s, two souls forever bonded together. From the very first page, Debra invites the reader into her life to become part of her life. She tells her story as if she is telling her son his story, explaining her roots, which become his roots by adoption. She weaves a heartrending story full of the power of love and leaves us with a simple message that we are all gifts to each other and the gift we share is love.
Son of My Soul: The Adoption of Christopher is a touching, heartfelt, and inspirational memoir, that grabs the reader from the first page. Son of My Soul: The Adoption of Christopher is highly recommended by: Emily-Jane Hills Orford, Allbooks Review.

Norma Jean’s Sun is Kris Courtney’s tribute to a mother that sacrificed everything for her severely crippled son. Courtney is an artist in both paint and words. In his touching memoir, he captures the essence of a tragic life and the beauty that lies beneath the surface. His words paint a picture of a hardship and a suffering that only few could imagine. Using a painter’s brush, Courtney scratches out his emotional story in an abstraction of language that parallels a life that just will not give up. As his mother told him many times, this remarkably talented man continues to “Fight”. Norma Jean’s Sun is a story about differences and the tragedies that life presents a person who is visibly different from the rest. Norma Jean’s Sun is recommended by: Emily-Jane Hills Orford, Allbooks Reviews.

Slivers of Reality
Imagine having your father die after making the decision to release him from life support, finding out your son is addicted to heroin, realizing that you have gained a seemingly supernatural Power and waking up in a psychiatric ward. In Slivers of Reality, that’s exactly the predicament the main character, John, finds himself in.
Cathleen Smith has created a thriller sure to please even the most discerning readers in her book, Slivers of Reality. The well developed characters and the nicely woven story, not to mention the imaginative book cover, create a book that I would definitely recommend to others.

THE CRUSADING SPIRIT OF MODERN AMERICA
It seems that every generation has some sort of watershed moment. In recent American history there has been the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The next generation grew up in the aftermath of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. It took 40 years for the next event of this sort to occur. That was the attack on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center on the ninth of September in 2001. The major difference in the country in 2001 was a definite political polarization and a seemingly new word had come into some usage. That word is – neoconservative.
In this book, Richard Bazillion has made a laudable effort to present his case for the history and evolution of the term ‘neoconservative’ in its current usage. The research is quite detailed and well explained. Dr. Bazillion then continues to tie this school of neoconservative thought into a study of the motivations and strategy and general outlook for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. He also includes a chapter on the war America isn’t fighting and that is the war with Iran that has been simmering since 1979.

A Full House – But Empty Filled with anecdotes, lessons learned, and inspirational messages for everyone, Angus Munro’s inspiring memoir details overcoming life’s obstacles with key messages to success.
A Full House – But Empty is a vivid account of one man’s journey through a life that witnessed pain, sorrow and the basic struggles to achieve and maintain one’s sense of pride and purpose against all odds. Angus was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He claims his sense of self-worth was first shattered at the tender age of three, when his mother abandoned the family (or was thrown out by the father). Growing up in the Depression years, with a single parent (his father), Munro is riddled with emotions that range from disillusionment to anger as he confronts a daily battle with his insecurities and feelings of inadequacies. But, despite what he claims as a meager background, Angus rises above his unusual upbringing to become a well mannered, dedicated and very respected administrator in the field of health care. Even the Harvard graduates could not measure up to this mere grade school dropout.

NO MAD
The hero of the novel –Aaron Abrams is slightly flawed – which makes him very human. He is enduringly quirky, and someone who greatly enjoys his own sense of humor. That sense of humor carries the book through a cast of bizarre characters, some shocking events and ultimately to a happy ending. In the same spirit as Jack Kerouac, Sam Moffie takes us along on a road odyssey full of reminiscing, classic tunes, and plenty of laughs. The writing is excellent, loaded with good, solid dialogue, gritty characters and adventure but I was particularly impressed with the author’s seamless transitions between past and present and his ubiquitous jinx” metaphor, best revealed in the book.

I Can’t Believe I Did That! David Carlson ISBN: 978-1-4257-8746-2 $15.99 978-1-4257-8805-6 (hardcover) $24.99
I Can’t Believe I Did That! Is a non fiction, science based book about why so much of “Hman Nature” is determined by basic, primitive instincts. The book has examples of everyday thoughts and actions, easily identifiable. How can we focus personal awareness in our life on the choices we make to live with respect, tolerance and caring?
I Can’t Believe I Did That! is a compelling, well written, and wildly interesting read. Its approach is gentle and yet authoritative. Carlson presents his thesis and backs up each point with relevant examples. While I would have liked to have seen some author information included in the book, that in no way detracts from the message and the writing within the book. I Can’t Believe I Did That! is a refreshing and intelligent look at human nature and why we do the things we do and I give it a Highly Recommended rating.
